BIOGRAPHY

Award-winning violinist and composer born in the Mexican border, Natalia has dedicated her life to spreading contemporary traditional music of northern México worldwide. She has performed in important stages and musical festivals around the world, such as the Smithsonian Folk Festival in Washington, D.C., the Music Festival in Pretoria, South Africa, the Autumn Festival in Paris, France, the Verk&Verkhart festival in Austria, the Music Festival in Bogotá, Colombia, the Arts Festival in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the International Festival of Music in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the Rainforest World Music Festival in Malaysia, and the International Music Festival in San Jose, Costa Rica.

 

Her passion for nature led her to compose an Island´s Songbook to promote islands conservation and restoration activities. She founded the “Isla Guadalupe fishing community choir”. As a creator she has composed 3 albums, “La Vereda”, “Island’s songbook” and “Reconnecting with roots”.

 

Her discography as an arranger and performer includes 5 albums. She has been a fellow of the National (México) Arts Fund and the National Program for Popular and Traditional Cultures, implementing music workshops in Native Kumiai communities, Mexico. In 2015 with the group Son de Madera, they won the best folk group LUNA DEL AUDITORIO (México). In 2016, she was selected for the OMI International Artist Residence in New York. Based in Ontario, Canada, since 2021, she directs the "Natalia Arroyo Ensemble”, which performs compositions by Natalia and Mexican traditional music as well.
